Despacito is a hit song from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi together with Daddy Yankee was released in 2017. It went on to become the most streaming music of that time within six month. The single a mix of reggaeton, pop and rock did not just bring attention to reggaeton but it also attracted attention to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish by 2016 compared to just two songs in 2015. During the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it into the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 songs. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, the most well-known artists began to join forces with reggaeton artists. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated on MIA (2018), while Madonna joined forces with Maluma to record Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. In the year 2020, some Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the advancing of the genre toward the mainstream. Yet, a young generation like Rauw Alejandro was keen to maintain the development. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music and different styles was an accepted procedure.
